R22 Pricing Already Up 21% From Last Year, Could Go Even Higher Very Soon

March 23, 2012

Prices are skyrocketing for Refrigerant 22, also known as R22 or freon, due to the reductions set by the Environmental Protection Agency this calendar year.

When looking back at Climate-Tech's books for R22 pricing in 2011, there is an astounding 21 percent increase already. Climate-Tech president John Dubecky crunched the numbers himself.

“A 21 percent increase right now could get even bigger since the EPA hasn't come to a full determination as to what the R22 reduction is for this year,” Dubecky said.

The most cost-effective change is to use a more readily available and cheaper coolant like R410a. This is a more efficient coolant though it cannot be used in existing equipment which uses R22.

If your home or business is using R22 coolant right now, then it's in your best interest to give Climate-Tech a call (phone number is below) and one of our comfort specialists will assist you in estimating a cost for new equipment needed to switch over to the less expensive R410a coolant.
